The Power to Grow December 14, 2003 By Kelly K. Serrano Today, the company (Ensign Power Systems, Inc.) has a contract to provide 1,000 power supplies —seven or eight per vehicle —for the Bradley Fighting Vehicle, an armored vehicle that transports troops on the battlefield, provides fire cover to dismounted troops, and suppresses enemy tanks and fighting vehicles. The contract is worth $400,000. Ensign also has its products in British submarine torpedo threat warning systems —a contract that grew the company’s sales from $400,000 in 1998 to $1.2 million in 1999, making it one of the fastest growing companies in Northern Colorado, Harris said. It was a contract for 3,000 power supplies for portable computer systems the military uses in the field that helped Ensign purchase its current facility at 510 E. Fifth St. in downtown Loveland. Ensign moved there in 2000, and it now employs five others in addition to its owners. Previously, Ensign worked in about 1,500 square feet at 330 N. Lincoln Ave., having grown from the 400-square-foot office in which it started. The facility on Fifth Street covers 4,500 square feet. But Ensign may experience another major growth spurt in 2004. With excellent referrals, its customer base is expanding, and Ensign already has a contract worth $900,000 —which exceeds the $800,000 in sales it did this year.
